Elon Musk’s legal team has responded to Twitter’s lawsuit against him, saying the company is seeking an unreasonably rapid trial. In response, Musk’s team asks that the case not be heard until next year. bloomberg,
Twitter has pushed for testing in mid-September, noting that October 24 is an “estimated drop-dead date” in the merger agreement between Musk and Twitter, justifying a request to expedite things. However, Musk’s team is saying that the trial should not be held until February 13, 2023, at the earliest. bloomberg Report.
Twitter declined to comment on the matter and pointed to its initial complaint filed on Tuesday.
Twitter sued Musk earlier this week after he tried to officially bail out his $44 billion deal to buy the company. When he said he intended to pull the plug, Twitter board chairman Brett Taylor said the company would taking musk to court, and the company filed its lawsuit Tuesday. Musk did not respond via court until Friday, although on Tuesday, he tweeted,
Musk’s primary claim for wanting to end the merger is that Twitter has not given him the data to “make an independent assessment of the spread of fake or spam accounts on Twitter’s platform,” his legal team wrote last week. His team again mentioned the bots issue in Friday’s filing. According to wall street journalhe said that “the core controversy over false and spam accounts is fundamental to the value of Twitter. It is also extremely factual and expertly intensive, requiring considerable time to be discovered.”
There will be a 90-minute hearing next week on July 19 at 11 a.m. ET to decide when the trial will take place. bloomberg And Reuters,
