Even Playdate Simulator Can Run On Steam Deck

In another reminder of how flexible Valve’s Steam Deck handheld gaming PC can be, an enterprising Redditor has shared on Twitter its Steam Deck-running playdate simulator. Valve Designer Lawrence Yang,

Playdate, in case you’re not familiar, is accompanied by a little yellow hand crank of panic, but similar to the long reservation queue for Steam decks, Playdates are supported for pre-border months. If you pre-order the Playdate now, it’s not expected to ship 2023, If you already have a Steam deck and want to indulge in the old-school vibes of Playdate, though, it looks like it’s possible to do so by installing the free Playdate simulator.

You can see a video of the simulator running on the Steam deck in u/ncarson9’s reddit post. They launch the simulator from the Steam deck’s menu, navigate to a game, open it, and spend a few seconds wandering around a zelda– Like a forest and swinging a short sword.

Like many other things with Steam decks, it probably takes some tinkering to get this set. But even in this limited fashion, it’s fun to see one of 2022’s highly coveted handhelds follow up on 2022’s highly coveted handhelds. Is this a handheld-ception?
