It’s ChromeOS now, not Chrome OS

Chrome OS, Google’s Linux-based operating system for its Chromebook devices, has been around for more than a decade, but the company has made a small but notable branding change: it’s now called ChromeOS, with no space in between. This change is not yet rolled out everywhere. On this ChromeOS page on Google’s Chromebook site, for example, Google still describes operating system as two separate terms. According to Krumm, the company is aware that the change isn’t reflected everywhere, but is working toward making it more consistent, so it looks like the new ChromeOS branding will eventually be switched over.

I know it’s not the biggest deal in the world, but here we are ledge Love to see branding and logos. Apple shifted its operating system to “ThingOS” branding a long time ago, and I’m wondering if Google might do something similar. Wear OS still has a place – will Google abandon it in favor of WearOS when the Pixel Watch launches this fall? I’m also going to write down the word “AndroidOS” so that we can collectively reveal it to exist. Or better yet, “FuchsiaOS.”

I’m (mostly) kidding with those last two, and we have no indication that Google plans to change anything other than ChromeOS. But if you’ve gotten used to writing Chrome OS with all that space, it’s officially time to stop.
