Multiple account support is finally becoming available for Google TV

One of the big features that Chromecast shipped with Google TV in late 2020 was its Google TV software and dashboard. Google’s latest attempt to put its services in front of your eyes while watching TV was a launcher that puts personalization and smart recommendations at the fore, as long as you’re in one person’s home. Google TV only supported one user profile, and later after adding baby profiles so you didn’t have to subject yourself to endless Baby Shark-adjacent recommendations, Google promised to support more profiles. After some lengthy delays and slow rollouts, that feature is finally here.

Google TV users should now be able to add multiple user profiles to their devices thanks to a server-side update that’s live, though triggering it may still require a reboot or reinstallation of the Google TV app. I can personally confirm that restarting my Chromecast with Google TV gave me the “presenting profile on Google TV” splash screen, giving the option to add another Google account.

Once you’ve added more Google accounts, you’ll be able to customize your interface with different watchlists and smart recommendations based on your viewing habits. This hopefully helps cut down on the time it takes to decide what you want to watch, while no longer subjecting your partner to recommendations of your own guilty pleasures, like anime shows or wrestling documentaries.
