Just a few days after the launch of the Pixel 6A, according to a report from Google, an update has been rolled out to fix an issue preventing users from unlocking the bootloader and performing the mode. Android Police, The change is included in the first update for the Pixel 6A, which Google started rolling out last week.
In short, bootloader is a piece of software that loads the operating system (OS) when a device is started. Gaining access to the bootloader on Android gives you complete control over your OS in a process called rooting. It also allows you to install modified versions of Android, called ROMs. While some phone manufacturers and carriers won’t let you unlock your device’s bootloader, Google does things differently. This lets you dive right in to Pixels that aren’t tied to a specific carrier (which, confusingly, are also known as “unlocked” devices).
Last week, Android Police There were several reports from Pixel 6A users who were disappointed to find that they were unable to access the bootloader, and later confirmed the issue on their Pixel 6A review unit. A Google spokesperson told Android police That the latest Pixel 6A update includes a fix, although it doesn’t explicitly mention it in its patch notes.
Google says the update will roll out over the course of the next week “depending on the carrier network.” So if you want to modify your brand new Pixel 6A, you shouldn’t wait too long.
