Tesla wants videos of its cars running on dummies the size of kids

Tesla is demanding that an advocacy group remove videos of its vehicles playing child-sized mannequins, fueling debate over the safety of the company’s full self-driving software.

Tesla sent a cease-and-desist letter to the Dawn Project, an anti-Tesla group fronted by software developer Dan O’Dowd. In it, the company alleged that the videos are defamatory and misrepresent the capabilities of its driver-assistance technology. (the letter was first reported Washington Post,

“It has come to our attention that you, personally, and The Dawn Project are disregarding Tesla’s business interests and defaming the public about the capabilities of Tesla’s Full Self Driving (FSD) (beta) technology.” We are disseminating information,” Dina Eskin, senior director and deputy general manager at Tesla, writes in the letter. “We demand that you immediately cease the dissemination of all defamatory information and within 24 hours issue a formal public return and provide Tesla with the documents requested below.”
