Brilliant green meteor lights up skies

Late on Wednesday, a green fireball lit up the skies over the United Kingdom (Sept. 14).

Incoming meteor (or group of space junk, as some scientists speculate it might be), which was visible from much of the United Kingdom,

which is home to nearly 70 million people, broke up between Scotland and northern Ireland.

Despite the late hour, the American Meteor Society received over 1,000 reports, including a collection of images and videos of the fireball incident.

As you can see below, dozens of reports and recordings from dashcams, doorbell cameras,

and mobile phones also surfaced on Twitter. According to AMA's preliminary computer trajectory,

the fireball initially appeared north of Loch Ryan (about two hours' drive southwest of Glasgow) and then vanished.
