The agreement between American Airlines and Boom Supersonic to purchase up to 20 Overture aircraft could be another selling point for corporate investment in the metroplex
Supersonic flights from Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport are possible.
Based in Fort Worth American Airlines made a non-refundable deposit on the new aircraft under construction.
The Overture is expected to be twice as fast as today's commercial aeroplanes.
According to the Denver-based manufacturer, the Overture is designed to carry 65 to 80 passengers at Mach 1.7 over water, or approximately 1,304 mph.
The agreement includes an option for an additional 40 in the future.
Overture aircraft flights out of DFW, a major American Airlines hub, have yet to be determined.
