Permanently shadowed regions on the moon

An multinational research team headed by ETH Zurich has investigated the permanently darkened regions of the moon with the use of artificial intelligence.

Future lunar missions will be able to find acceptable spots thanks to the knowledge they have gained about the region's surface characteristics.

The final time that humans set foot on the moon occurred in 1972. After that, the Apollo programme was abandoned.

In 2020, China will have successfully placed a robot and raised its flag on the far side of the moon.

NASA intends for the Artemis spacecraft to settle near the lunar south pole.

most likely in the years 2025 to 2028. Then, astronauts will focus their exploration efforts on this region.

Because of the moon's axial tilt, the south polar zone is particularly attractive because the sun hovers close to the horizon.
