SpaceX to launch communicationsatellite
The Superbird-9 spacecraft will be launched by Starship for the Japanese company Sky Perfect JSat.
Sky Perfect JSat has chosen Starship to launch its Superbird-9 communications satellite into geosynchronous transfer orbit in 2024, according to a press release.
SpaceX's Starship is its next-generation transportation system, which the company believes will make Mars colonisation possible.
The vehicle is made up of a massive first-stage booster called Super Heavy and a 165-foot (50-meter) upper-stage spacecraft called Starship.
Both of these elements will be powered by SpaceX's Raptor engine and are designed to be fully and rapidly reusable — hence the anticipated affordability.
Starship will have six Raptors, while Super Heavy will have 33 of them.
Starship has not yet completed any spaceflights, but SpaceX is working to change that.
