Polymele is a 27 km (17 mile) diameter P-type Jupiter L4 trojan asteroid.
On November 17, 1999, astronomers from the Catalina Sky Survey at Mount Lemmon Observatory in Arizona discovered this asteroid.
The object was named after Polymele, the wife of Menoetius and the mother of Patroclus in Greek mythology.
It orbits the Sun once every 11 years and 9 months at a distance of 4.7-5.7 astronomical units (AU).
Polymele is scheduled to be visited by NASA's asteroid-hunting spacecraft Lucy, which is scheduled to launch in 2021.
