You’re Not Hearing Things – Yes, the Twitter App Is Now Chirping

some of us ledge Something new about Twitter’s iOS app: When you pull down to refresh your feed, you might hear some new sounds. There’s a small windup trill that plays when you pull up a feed for the first time, and after you refresh your feed, you may hear a short confirmation chirp. (Though the sounds are more robotic than any real-life bird I’ve heard.)

I made a recording because you can hear what i’m hearing, This is a little different from the little “pops” you might have heard during the first refresh.

We’re not exactly sure when the transformation began, but we first noticed it Friday afternoon, and we saw bunch of Tweets Also about the new teak from Friday. There are also some tweets that mention tweeting on the past couple of weeksWhich could mean that Twitter is slowly rolling it out ahead of the big release.

If you want to hear the noise for yourself on your phone, try just dragging down to refresh your feed. If you don’t hear it, try closing the Twitter app and re-opening it (that’s what worked for me), and make sure you’re on the latest version of the app. We’re not sure how widely it’s rolled out, so you might not have the sounds yet, even if you try those steps.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to refresh the app to hear lovely new sounds again. and then. Maybe just one more time. Last time, I promise…
